“You have a pretty face, but you’re too fat to make it in the modeling world. Those girls are beautiful from head to toe. No one will ever take you seriously. You should consider something more practical for a girl your size. Something slow-paced, maybe like a secretary or something, where you can sit behind a desk.”

I reflected over my grandmother’s words as I prepared to cut the ribbon during the grand opening of my modeling agency. Years ago, I made a vow to myself to never allow the words that she spoke to me, and repeated to me, to ever stop the pursuit of my dreams.
